Rio Planetarium reopens its doors and hosts a luau on Wednesdays at Praça dos Telescopes

The Rio Planetarium offers a range of activities for the whole family - Roberto Moreyra/City Hall of Rio The ship of science and fun is back. After a brief hiatus due to renovations on its dome, the Museum of the Universe reopens its doors this Saturday (6/1) with a series of activities for the whole family. In addition to extra screenings of films about astronomy, there will be new photography exhibitions, and on the 10th, the first Luau at the Rio Planetarium will debut.
– In the summer, we can see a beautiful region of the sky more clearly, such as the constellation of Orion with the Three Marys, the constellation of Taurus and the Canis Major Dwarf Galaxy. Our astronomers will give all the explanations about them to the children – assured the director of Astronomy at the Rio Planetarium, Leandro Guedes.
During the most celebrated season of the year, there will also be shows promoted by the Papa Vento theater company and environmental education workshops by Ecofuture. Tickets for visits to the park are on sale at Rio Planetarium website. On Tuesdays, entry to the site is free.
– At the end of the year, we took the opportunity to renovate the dome of the Museum of the Universe. Now, during the holidays, we are preparing a special program so that the whole family can have fun and expand their knowledge not only about astronomy in our spaceship of science and fun –, stated the municipal secretary of Labor and Income, Everton Gomes.
The gates of the Museum of the Universe will reopen on Saturday at 10 am. In addition to the permanent exhibitions and summit sessions with the themes “Playing among the stars” and “An adventure at the Planetarium”, visitors will be able to participate in the special session of “The Sky of Rio de Janeiro”, at 18 pm, with astronomer Wailã Cruz. The Planetarium luaus will be held at 19 pm, at Praça dos Telescópios.
– In 2023, we received more than 155 thousand visitors. Among them were students from 891 public and private schools. We will increase these visits and further democratize access to knowledge of different sciences among our students – promised the president of the Planetarium Foundation of the City of Rio de Janeiro, Renan Uccelli.
Tickets for the Museum of the Universe cost R$20 and R$40 (Museum of the Universe + Summit Session). The Rio Planetarium is located at Rua Vice-Governador Rúbens Berardo, 100, in Gávea.
