On June 21, 2022, the first Prato Feito Carioca unit opened in Mangueira. Two years later, a new branch of the Rio de Janeiro City Hall program will be opened in the community. On Friday (21/6), at 12 pm, the Leonina Pereira Gomes Carioca Community Kitchen will be officially opened at number 92 on Vigário Morato Street. Before that, at 11 am, a kitchen will also be opened in Morro do Tuiuti, in São Cristóvão.

On the same day, the two-year anniversary of the Sacode Mangueira Carioca Community Kitchen, located at 1.100 Bartolomeu de Gusmão Street, will be celebrated with cake and soft drinks. More than 156 meals have already been served there. The two-year anniversary of the Renascença Community Kitchen, in Andaraí, will also be celebrated, but on Thursday (20/6). In the 24 months of its operation, more than 148 hot meals have been served.

– By July 3, we will open a total of 12 new units of the Prato Feito program in different neighborhoods and communities. The idea is to take the kitchens to the most socially vulnerable areas in the city – said the municipal secretary of Labor and Income, Everton Gomes.

In the two years of Prato Feito, 3,5 million meals have already been served. With the new openings, there will be 32 community kitchens operating in the city. And by the end of the year, the number will rise to 55.

– Prato Feito is the best project we have here, because it brings food to the tables of needy people, who sometimes have nothing to eat. And there is nothing better than knowing that you are satisfying someone’s hunger – said cook Rosemary de Almeida Figueiredo, 57, born and raised in Mangueira and in charge of the stove in the kitchen on Rua Vigário Morato.
