Tender for the purchase of 270 new BRT articulated vehicles attracts interested parties for all lots

The Rio de Janeiro City Hall, through the Municipal Department of Transportation (SMTR), held this Thursday (17/11), in the auditorium of the City Attorney General's Office, the public session of the electronic auction for the acquisition of 270 new articulated buses for the BRT system. The bidding was divided into five lots and there were proposals for all. The winners who presented the lowest prices were the companies Marcopolo and Guanabara Diesel. The vehicles, with a minimum capacity for 180 passengers, are expected to be delivered between November 2023 and March 2024. In total, the city will invest R$864 million in the purchase of the buses.

The next steps will be the approval of the result and the signing of the contract with the winning consortiums of each lot, scheduled for the next few days. This is the first purchase of buses by the City of Rio following the determination of the new environmental standard Proconve P-8 (Euro VI), which is less polluting and will come into effect in 2023.

With the result of this bidding process, the number of buses purchased by the City Hall this year for the recovery of the BRT system has reached 561. The SMTR held two other bidding processes in April and May for the acquisition of 291 new vehicles for the system, including 220 articulated buses and 71 standard buses. The vehicles already purchased in previous bidding processes will be delivered by March 2023.
