Passengers who use the BRT will gain further integration with the Bilhete Único Carioca

Passengers using the BRT will be entitled to one more trip with the Bilhete Único Carioca - Archive/City of Rio The City of Rio, through the Municipal Department of Transportation (SMTR), informs that, starting this Wednesday (19/4), passengers who ride the BRT will be able to make up to three trips for the price of a single ticket (R$ 4,30) using the Bilhete Único Carioca (BUC). In other words, the user will be allowed to make one more connection as long as the BRT is one of the modes used on the route, according to a measure published on March 29 in a decree in the Official Gazette.
Before this new feature, it was only possible to make two trips for the price of one ticket, according to the BUC interaction rules.
– The BRT system requalification process allowed the City Hall to adopt this much-needed measure, especially in a large city like Rio. Now, with the BRT operating more smoothly again, passengers who need to make more than one connection will no longer have to spend on the third trip, which is good for their pockets – said the Secretary of Transportation, Maína Celidonio.
All modes of transport regulated by the City Hall that operate with Bilhete Único Carioca validators can be used for the other two trips, such as conventional buses, vans and VLT. The order of the integrations does not matter, as long as the BRT is one of the means of transport used. The period for making the integrations will be three hours from the moment the passenger uses the card in the first validator.
Requalification of the BRT System
Last year, the City Hall purchased 561 new buses to upgrade the BRT system. By the end of this month, 291 vehicles will have been delivered. The Transolímpica, Transcarioca and Lote Zero corridors (the stretch between the Jardim Oceânico and Alvorada terminals) are already operating 100% with new buses.
From November of this year until March 2024, the city will receive the other 270 articulated buses purchased by the municipality to serve the Transbrasil and Transoeste corridors – currently under construction. The BRT System is expected to operate fully with its four corridors and with 100% of the new buses at the beginning of next year.
85% of the BRT system stations have already been renovated
Of the 125 stations in the BRT system, 108 have already been renovated. Improvements include replacing glass panels and doors with perforated steel plates; embedded wiring and armored door mechanisms; light and sound alarms on doors to indicate opening and closing; and automatic door locks. Other services performed include internal and external painting, new electrical installations and visual programming, improved lighting, and the installation of guardrails.
