  • The city government authorizes the circulation of school transport on BRS corridors between 11 am and 14 pm.

The Rio de Janeiro City Hall, through the Municipal Secretariat of Transportation (SMTR), has authorized the circulation of school transport vehicles in the BRS (Bus Rapid Transit) corridors and dedicated lanes between 11 am and 14 pm. This period was chosen to correspond to off-peak hours, when there is less bus traffic in the system, allowing for the compatibility of school transport operations with public transport and reducing potential impacts on traffic flow in the corridors.

"This measure will greatly improve traffic flow and benefit the 60 children who use school transportation every day in the city of Rio de Janeiro. It will be better for those leaving in the morning and also for those taking the afternoon shift," said Mayor Eduardo Cavaliere.

The measure applies to vehicles that are properly registered, licensed, and identified for providing the service in the municipality. The authorization will have an initial monitoring phase by SMTR and CET-Rio, which will assess the impacts on traffic flow, road safety, and the operation of public transportation.

Based on this monitoring, the operating hours may be gradually extended to times before 11:00 AM and after 2:00 PM.

School transport vehicles may not remain, wait, or park in the BRS lanes. Boarding and disembarking should only occur for the necessary time, without hindering the circulation of buses.
