The Rio City Hall, through the Municipal Department of Transportation (SMTR), published this Friday (01/04) the bidding notice for the purchase of new buses for the BRT. The notice is published in the Official Gazette of the Municipality and the full notice can be accessed at SMTR website or through the Comprasnet website.

The project, which is part of the requalification of the entire BRT system, foresees the acquisition of 572 new vehicles, enabling the gradual replacement of the old fleet and the expansion of the system until 2023. The objective is to guarantee greater quality in the service provided to users, with a greater supply of buses and reduced intervals and waiting times.

The acquisition of the new BRT articulated buses will be divided into three bids: The first two were published this Friday (01/04), with the receipt of proposals scheduled for April 13. The first bid foresees the purchase of 320 articulated vehicles, measuring 18, 21 and 23 meters, with a delivery deadline of March 2023. The second will be for 71 Padron type vehicles (12 to 15 m) running on diesel to operate on the axis of Avenida Cesário de Melo, with a delivery deadline of December 2022. These first two bids were divided into lots to increase competitiveness and the possibility of participation of more suppliers.

The third tender, to be held in the second half of this year, foresees the acquisition of another 181 21-meter articulated vehicles, with delivery for the second half of 2023.

To encourage the delivery of new vehicles as soon as possible, the City Hall plans to make payment for the buses upon each delivery made by the provider. In this way, the winning bidder who manages to make the buses available before the stipulated deadline will receive payment upon delivery.
