The Pedro Fernandes Metropolitan BRT Terminal in Irajá begins operations with a direct connection to the Baixada Fluminense region.

The terminal will now concentrate services for the metropolitan BRT connection, the Transbrasil BRT, and municipal urban buses - Marcelo Piu/Rio City Hall

Starting this Monday (March 16th), line 77 will begin operating, connecting Mesquita, in the Baixada Fluminense region, to the Pedro Fernandes Metropolitan BRT Terminal in the North Zone of Rio. The terminal, inaugurated by the Rio City Hall last Saturday (March 14th), already receives six municipal feeder lines that integrate the BRT system, expanding travel options for those using the express corridors.

The new service will initially operate Monday through Friday, during off-peak hours, from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM, with average intervals of 15 minutes between trips. This line will be the first to directly connect another municipality in the Metropolitan Region to the Transbrasil BRT system, expanding access options to the capital.

The operation begins with 15 conventional buses. The route will run between the final stop at Praça João Luiz Nascimento (Praça da Telemar), in Mesquita, and the terminal located at Trevo das Margaridas, in Irajá. Check the itinerary:

In total, the new line will provide approximately 7,5 seats per day to passengers. The service will offer faster and more regular travel for residents of the Baixada Fluminense region to Avenida Brasil and the city center, in addition to contributing to the reorganization of bus operations in the area.

The Municipal Department of Transportation also acquired 50 new articulated buses to operate at the Pedro Fernandes Metropolitan BRT Terminal. Part of the fleet has already begun circulating this weekend in municipal services that feed into the Transbrasil corridor.

Upon arrival at the terminal, passengers will be able to connect to the Transbrasil corridor, which links different regions of the city, including the city center. From the BRT system, it will also be possible to access other structural corridors, such as Transoeste, Transolímpica, and Transcarioca, expanding travel options within the municipality of Rio.

The terminal was designed to function as a strategic integration point between municipal buses, metropolitan connection services, and the BRT system.

Margaridas Integrated Single Ticket (BUM)

In addition to the new terminal, the population will also have access to the Margaridas Integrated Single Ticket (BUM), which establishes fare integration between the feeder lines of the Metropolitan Region, the Transbrasil BRT, and municipal services.

With a fare of R$ 9,20, the model allows the user to make up to three transfers within a three-hour period, including the BRT as an intermediate connection.

BUM operates exclusively within the Jaé digital ticketing system and complements the existing integration policy in the municipality of Rio, strengthening the connection between transportation networks.

The operation will be monitored in real time by a GPS system, allowing adjustments according to demand and traffic conditions. The implementation of the Pedro Fernandes Metropolitan BRT Terminal is part of the restructuring process of the municipal transport network, focusing on expanding integration, reducing travel time, and improving the user experience.
