Use of preferential seating on public transport extends to autistic people

Mayor Marcelo Crivella amended decree no. 45.682, of 25/2/2019, which provides for the priority for the use of seats in public transportation vehicles in the city. The text, published this Thursday (28/2), in the Official Gazette of the Municipality, includes autistic people among the beneficiaries of the measure, as well as obese people, pregnant women, people with children on their laps, elderly people aged 60 or over and physically disabled people.
Section IV of article 2 of the decree shall come into force with the following wording: Mental disability – intellectual functioning significantly below average and limitations associated with two or more adaptive skills, such as personal care, social skills, academic skills, leisure and work, such as that resulting from Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), among others.
With the symbols of the beneficiaries of preferential use of seats, plus the sixth, related to ASD, the poster that must be displayed in a visible location on public transport vehicles, within 30 days, will have the following text: “All seats are preferential for: obese people, pregnant women, people with children on their laps, the elderly, physically disabled people and autistic people. Take the opportunity to offer your seat.”
