The biggest cruise ship of the season arrives in Rio and tourists are welcomed in a carnival atmosphere

Carnival Court welcomes tourists who arrived in Rio on the largest cruise of the 2024/2025 season - Ari Kaye/ Riotur Riotur prepared a reception in the best Rio style for tourists who disembarked from the MSC Grandiosa ship on the morning of Thursday (5/12), at Pier Mauá. The event marked the arrival of the largest cruise ship of the season, and was attended by the Royal Court of Carnival 2025 and the Suburblack group, who brought a small sample of the joy, culture and Rio carnival to the port terminal.
The MSC Grandiosa has a capacity for more than six thousand passengers and left Salvador for Rio on December 2nd. Tourists on the Grandiosa will stay in the city until 12 pm, when the ship will head to Ilha Bela, on the coast of São Paulo.
– It is very important to welcome tourists with irreverence, showing them a little of our culture. Especially in the central region, which is the birthplace of samba. Tourists get to know the city a little and it awakens the desire to return. Rio has an enormous capacity to welcome and enchant those who come to the city – said the president of Riotur, Patrick Corrêa.
The city is expected to receive 74 visitors in December alone, divided between nine ships. For the 2024/2025 season, a total of 37 ships are expected, bringing around 335 passengers. The flow of tourists through Mauá Pier is expected to boost the city's economy by around R$300 million during the season.
Mauá Pier was elected, for the second time, the best cruise terminal by the 2024 World Cruise Awards. The other award took place in 2022.
