Paquetá will offer rabies vaccination for dogs and cats this Saturday

Dogs and cats must receive the rabies vaccine - Marcelo Piu / Rio City Hall The anti-rabies vaccination campaign, promoted by the Municipal Institute of Health Surveillance, Zoonosis Surveillance and Agricultural Inspection (Ivisa-Rio), will arrive on Paquetá Island this Saturday (10/9), with a vaccination post located at the Renato Antunes Bandstand, in São Roque Square, from 9 am to 15 pm. In addition to this fixed point, Ivisa-Rio teams will carry out itinerant work, going from house to house on the island, to ensure the immunization of local animals. Healthy dogs and cats from three months of age can be immunized.
– Rabies is a fatal disease for pets, but it can also be transmitted to humans. Immunizing your pet not only ensures its health, but also that of its owners. Keeping animals healthy helps preserve the health of everyone around them. Immunizing animals is the only way to prevent this serious disease – explains the president of Ivisa-Rio, Aline Borges.
The rabies vaccine for dogs and cats must be renewed annually. Rabies has not been reported in dogs and cats in the city of Rio for 27 years, and in humans for 36 years. These results are only possible due to the high adherence to vaccination in annual campaigns and the vaccination actions carried out by Ivisa-Rio.
Until November, the campaign will take place in a staggered manner, on five dates, always on Saturdays, when different groups of neighborhoods will be covered, in order to reach all the programmatic areas (AP) of the municipality. The next groups of neighborhoods in the North and West zones will receive the campaign on September 17, October 8 and 22, and November 5.
